What Home Means To Me

A home means differently to many people. Many people believe that your parent's house is your home, but I feel differently about this. A home could mean anywhere you spend time like your church, your school, or house. Also, a home is where you feel safe, comfortable, and happy. A home can be a place other than your house especially if you feel unsafe or embarrassed within your house. A home could also refer to a gathering of people or a community. In this case, these people have a common cause and it provides a sense of congregation for the people. Examples will include a church, school, and ancestral home. It is a place that provides a safe space where people submit themselves to a higher cause. In this home, people do not feel like strangers but rather feel like co-owners of the space. For example, Springs is my spiritual home and I feel safe here when I come to worship or attend school. Many people believe that their house, where they sleep everyday, is their home. However, to many others, this does not apply. A home should provide qualities like security, sense of belonging, and ownership. If one’s house cannot provide any of these qualities, it is not a home. In my opinion, a home is a place of comfort and love. I consider my parent's house as my physical home, Springs church as my spiritual home and Nigeria as my ancestral home. I feel a sense of security and do not feel like a stranger in these homes. In conclusion, I believe the meaning of a home should be determined by what the home represents. A place that provides security, sense of belonging, and ownership is considered home to me.
