Meaning of Home

Home is defined as “the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household” but it means a whole lot more. A home can be anything from your church or community. It can be anywhere from Indonesia to here in Canada. A home can be different to everyone. Your house is where you live but can be different than your home. It isn’t a place, it’s a feeling. Home is where you feel welcome, able to express your true feelings, feel safe, peaceful, and always able to access, and where you feel loved. A home is somewhere you are wanted and belong. Your home is where you can imagine and create, do things you can’t to other places, rejuvenate and be yourself. Home is like a warm blanket when you rest and calm down. Some people have two places that feel like home on different sides of the world. I have places in Indonesia and Canada that feel like home even though they are very different. In Indonesia it’s very hot and humid, but in Canada it’s cold and dry. One is crowded and one is not. The way of life is very different but both countries feel like home. Sometimes it’s hard for people to know what home is. They have broken homes and families that have fallen apart. Some people come home to a house that has no people or don’t even have a house to come home to. Home is like a boring old box with wonderful treasures inside. It doesn’t matter what it looks like but it matters how you feel. It's an ordinary place that means a whole lot more. I wish everyone could have a home and having a safe house is a great place to start.
