Home is not just a building
Home is not just a place. Home is like a giant, fluffy blanket wrapped around me every single day. Home is my shield when I have a miserable day. It is not about the building or how big or small it is. Home is about love and the unique things inside. Home erases all my problems as soon as I walk through the door. Home is where I sleep with all of my stuffies because I don't want any of them to feel bad.
When I was 4, I had a home in Ontario. Now I am 11 and I live in Newfoundland and Labrador. Those 7 years I've lived here have been filled with success, hard days, fun days and a mix of all good and bad, but I never want to call it that. To me, calling my community “bad” just feels wrong. So I call it a mix of both. Moving from my birth home was hard, but I knew that we would make this our new home.
Even though I don’t live there anymore, when I go and visit, it still feels like home. The Arabic smell with all the spices from my grandma’s kitchen fills my home with the best vibes. Me and my brother playing outside with our new friends here makes us feel like we belong.
I am fed with the most amazing foods. Home is where I get excited when mom yells “Time for dessert!”
Home isn’t just a building. Home is where I can feel cozy 24 hours a day. I will always be there for my family and I know that they will be there for me too!
