Meaning of Home

Have you ever thought about the difference between a home and a house? A house is made out of bricks, woods, and cement. A home is made by memories, love, family and belonging. These are the things that make home for me. What home means to me is to be safe and loved. It’s also a place you should be able to be yourself, and belong. I’m glad I have a family who cares so much about me and loves me, even though my dad has to go back and forth from Korea to here. My family will always be there to comfort me. I feel so comfortable at home. It’s safe and protected, like nothing will ever hurt me when I’m at home. When I feel scared and unsafe, I always think about my home. It comforts me. Home also means to belong. When I come in, I am always welcomed. My family always includes me in activities, like going to the pool or going to the park after dinner at night. When I think about my home, I also think about all the memories my family’s made in our home. The memories I’ve made in my home, it’s always heartwarming to think about them. Even watching a horror movie on a family movie night is a memory. I remember being too scared to sleep. Our family traditions are always fun, even when one of my family isn’t there. Staying up until midnight on New Year’s Eve was very tiring, but also fun. Having a big dinner on Christmas Eve until we’re all so full. All of those fun memories were able to happen thanks to our safe home. Nothing will ever hurt me when I’m home. It will always be there, waiting for me to return.
