Is Home Just Wood?
home
/hōm/
noun
1.
The house where one lives permanently.
Really? Is home really a house made of flat pieces of wood called “Walls” or shingles called “A Roof” , or is it more than that? I think home isn’t just a building. Don’t believe me? Let me ask you a question:
If there was a house identical to yours, except without that one painting that you made as a little kid? The one that you beg to take down but your mother just won’t let you? Maybe. But imagine that you did make it, but your mom has no memory of it. Is your mom the same? More importantly, is your home still specifically your home? Okay, imagine the same situation except your mom isn’t there. Is it your home, or is it not? What about the time when you just came back from riding your bike, and you were crying. Your dad asked what happened , and you told him about how you fell. He helped you treat the injury, and the next week he helped you learn how to properly ride without getting hurt, on the driveway of your home. Would you still be you? Would your mom be your mom? Would home be home? Probably not. Home is not about windows and wood, it’s about the people and memories that make it up.
So, yet again, I say, home isn’t a building. Home is made up of memories and the people that make it up.
