A New Home
I stand at the front of my family’s tent. Tears almost flood my eyes as I pick up my bag. I live in Palestine, Gaza but today that's all going to change. Due to the war my family is going on a plane to our new home, Pakistan. I open our tent and find my little sister Hania zipping up her bags. I look around, this tent has been our home for a while.
The only other house I've lived in was lovely. The second you opened that door smiling faces would greet you. The smell of my mom’s cooking would fill the air. You could hear my dad telling Hania stories. I would play around and have so much fun. But when the war broke out we lost our home. From then on our new home was this tent. “Maryam, ready to go?” Mom says to me.
As we board our plane I feel some guilt leaving my aunties and uncles but our family has to do what's best for us. I take a seat on the plane beside Hania. I think to myself what our new home might be like. Maybe we could have a pet! I wonder how many rooms or-“Maryam” mom says, “we’re here”.
As we leave the plane I look around, Pakistan is our new home now. Once the taxi is parked in front of our new home Hania sprints to the front door of the house. I follow her, taking it all in. The house is beautiful! It has brown, grey and white as the outside colors. I step inside. The interior, it's all wonderful. The smell of our new home is unfamiliar but welcoming. There are so many memories to make here, so let's start!
