Every Room is a Different Part of Me

A home is not just a place with four walls and a roof. Home is where my family and I live. Home is where my Chinese culture lives on and where I love the traditional foods l get to eat. The living room is where I play boardgames with my uncle, my mom and my dad. In this room, I watch TV when l am bored, and I play Nintendo with my friends. This is where I laugh at jokes and where happy memories gather. The kitchen is where I will always remember the smell of my dad’s famous pork dish. This is where I fight with my friends about what plate or cup to use. This is where the sound of laughter is mixed with the smell of cooking. The bedroom is where I used to sleep with my mom when l was little. My room is where I pretend l am the queen of my stuffed animals. My bedroom is the place where I have sleepovers and pillow fights with my friends. The basement is where my dad used to work. This room is where my friends and I play Hide and Seek. This space is where we tell stories about our day. Here is where I used to make clay sculptures and tiny shoes. All this together is my home. The place where my culture is celebrated. The place where my traditions are kept. The place where Chinese songs play during Chinese New Year. The place where l love eating mooncakes during the moon festival. Home is where l will always be loved. Home is where l will always return. Habitat for Humanity, thank you for doing this for our community. I hope that everyone who doesn’t have a home will have one soon.
