More Than Just Walls
Sofia got up, still drowsy. It was a big day, she was moving, She didn’t want to. Her parents bought the house before she was born. In two months it could have been the 13 anniversary of her parents getting the house. She got dressed, went down stairs and was met with the smell of pancakes. Her Mom was facing the stove and she couldn’t see her.
“Hi.” she said.
Her mom turned around, smiled and said “Hi honey, come eat.”
Sofia sat down and ate the pancakes, it would be the last time she got to eat her Mom’s special pancakes in her soon to be old home. James came down stairs. He was only 4, she almost thought he was lucky,he had less attachment to the house than she did.
“Hel-woo, I have pancakes.” James said.
“Say please.” Her Dad reminded him.
They ate and she could see pain through the smiles on their faces while they were eating. Once Sofia and her family were done eating they called the movers.
“They move our furniture.” her Mom said to James.
“Funicher.” Her brother tried to say.
They drove to the new house two hours away, once they got there her family hoped out of the car. It was a big red house with two windows surrounding the door. We all went in, empty. My first thought was that it was so very empty. After we ate super I went to lie in my bed. It was very different, nothing on the wall, my bed on the floor then I closed my eyes. Two years later we got a new dog named Dug, my room has posters on the walls and now I have realised that a house can have walls but a home is way more important. It has memories good like me and my Mom making cookies or bad like a dog dying. But now my house is a home.
