Araelya’s House

Araelya walked into her room. Where are the butterflies and rainbows on the wall? The walls are blank, untouched. The dollhouse that used to be in the corner of her room, gone as well. “This feels different, it’s not like home.” Araelya said. Her mom called for dinner. Araelya went downstairs to eat. She couldn’t hear the crackle of the broken furnace. Instead, she heard the brand new dishwasher humming. “Don’t you love the new house?” “We can make so many new memories.” Mom said. Araelya didn’t want to make new memories, she missed her home town, she missed those memories. There’s nothing like there used to be. It’s modern, their old house was just a nice simple cabin. Araelya heard a knock on the door. She bolted to the door she always loved opening the door at their old house. It was a girl Araelya’s age. “Hi, my name is Olivia Jay!” The girl called. Araelya felt safe for the first time in this house. It was Olivia, her best friend from grade one. “Olivia, is it really you?” Araelya asked. “Sorry I don’t recognize you, can I get a reminder?” Olivia questioned. “Araelya Melody, remember me?” Araelya felt joyful, Olivia recognized Araelya and they gave each other a nice warm, happy hug. Araelya felt at home. She knew people in this new town. Araelya felt so happy, knowing she had a friend in her new town. Olivia looked so different without her unicorn horn and ice cream dress. Instead she was wearing a dark blue top and camouflage jeans. Araelya and Olivia immediately clicked. They were friends again and Araelya felt at home once again.
