Home Away From Home

I am originally from India, and my story is about leaving home and making a new one. I was living in India, where I had lots of friends, my parents taking care of me, my grandparents, friendly neighbors, and nice teachers. I was very comfortable and happy there. One day, my parents told me they were thinking of moving to Canada and that we would get more money if we did, which was a big shock. At first, I said no and started crying, but eventually had to go. At first, I thought India was just way better. I started going to school, learning English, meeting new people, and more. The more days I spent in Canada, the more familiar I became with the people and environment. This wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, since everyone here was so kind. Canada was like home to me now. These days, when I enter the house, I see nice, shiny wallpaper that brightens the mood. I also smell the aroma of delicious snacks that my mom makes. At that time, I hear my dad talk to his teammates online for work purposes. When I eat, my dad comes out of his room, and we have an enjoyable time eating together. This made me realize that it’s actually my family and the people around me that make my home feel like home. At the end of February 2026, I will be moving to a new house, and this time I’m not scared, as my family and friends will still be there with me. I am pretty confident that I can make this new house a home.
