Home
HOME
Home has many definitions. Home can be a place where you feel safe, or where you belong, or a place that you’re used to and feel comfortable to be yourselves. You feel like you’re supposed to be at home. What makes home so special is that when you are away from it for too long, you start missing it.
This is called being homesick. For example, I felt homesick when I was sent to Scout camps. After one or two days of sleeping there, I started to miss my home. Whenever I heard the word home or even thought of the face of my Mom or when it was bedtime, I would burst into tears. Yes, I’m that much of a baby. I will learn not to feel homesickness like this, because when I turn twelve, I will be forced to join cadet school.
Throughout your life, the definition of home can change. For example, when I was very young, the only thing I thought of as home was my Mom’s arm. Up until I was six, I slept with my Mom! I admit, I’m a mama’s boy and always will be. Why am I talking about my mom in a competition about writing about home? It’s because my Mom is like home to me. When I am separated from my home, I don’t miss my house, I miss my Mom.
I am grateful I have a home because many people on earth do not have a home. But because of this competition, we can fix that in Canada. Even if I don’t win, I am still grateful that many more people will have a home. And if I win, someone will be getting a new home, and that someone is my future pet frog, my Mom promised.
