The two meanings of home
Hi, my name is Zach and I am in grade six. For me home has two meanings, the first meaning is physical, it means food to fill our bellies, a warm place to stay, a roof to cover us and somewhere to sleep. The second meaning is more symbolic, it means family, friends, love, and care.
I have always been scared to lose my house and family. I’m scared to lose my house because when I was in grade 3 someone in my class lost their house to a fire, and also because I currently know someone on my hockey team who is too poor to have a house. I’m scared to lose my family because I’ve seen friends in my class whose parents are divorced. Even worse, last year a boy on my hockey team lost his mom in a hit and run car accident. So if I could, I would give everyone a house and a family full of love, but since I can’t give a family to everyone, I will still try to give people a house to live in.
Even though I have to do shoveling for neighbors to get the money for this donation because my mom can’t work and we probably won't get a summer vacation, I know that we are still lucky that we have a family and a house. I feel sad when I see homeless people and I hate to not be able to give to all of them. I really love giving to those in need and I’m happy to be able to help families get houses through this fundraiser. Even if I don't win, I will still have given some money to an important cause. I am so grateful to be able to give and do something to help, like my dad who volunteers for Samaritan`s Purse Disaster Relief. Thank you Habitat For Humanity and BMO for creating this challenge where kids will win prizes and others will get houses. This good deed will inspire others to do the same.
Sincerely,
Zach Warmington
