The Meaning of Home

The Meaning of Home By Addy What do you think of when I say the word home? Some people think of walls, a roof, and a floor, but to me a home is so much more. Having a place to be yourself is so important. A home is not just a place, a home is safe, filled with memories, and people who love you. In my opinion being safe is a really amazing feeling. Feeling safe is the sense that everything is under control. Such as knowing that you are in a safe community, and that there are people around you who can help if you need. It hurts my heart that in some places people don’t have safe communities or safe people. So if you asked me, feeling safe is one of the most important feelings in the world. Memories are a part of your home and you. What I mean is memories work to tell you what you like, what you don’t like, and even how to be a human being. Memories shape us into who we are and who we will become. Memories also help shape how we remember our homes. For example, your memories remind you of what your home smells like or feels like. A memory doesn't have to be happy, they can be mortifying, enraging, or melancholy like visiting loved ones' graves. Memories are part of our childhood and our home. Having people who love you is something everyone should have in their life. People who love you can be your immediate family, like your mom, dad, siblings, but these people can also be your friends and close neighbours as well. Your home should be filled with people who are willing to take care of you. Everyone should have these people in their lives. Home is not just a place, it is wherever you can be you. Home is where you are safe and surrounded by people who love you. My home connects to who I am and who I will become. Home is so much more than a dictionary word. A home is built on love, safety, trust, and memories.
