The Meaning of Home

When my mom was in Sri Lanka there was a war. My parents went to Canada to escape the war and to save their family. My Dad travelled to Canada all alone. My mom was crying. My mom told me she was crying because she missed her father. My Grandpa lived in the basement of a cousin’s house. He found a job at a gas station and worked to earn money to pay for rent and to send money back to Sri Lanka to help the family. Later, my Grandpa brought my Mom, Grandma and my Uncle to Canada. Once in Canada, they lived in an apartment building. For all these reasons, I feel lucky to have a house. Home is a place to relax and a safe place to sleep. I just realized during this writing activity how lucky I am to have a house. Home means I can have a shelter. Home means I have a place to read and get infinite water. I need home to have more chances of servicing for natural disasters. I need a home so I can go to school because I need an address. If I don't have a home, I can't save enough money to go on vacations. When my Dad came to Canada, he had to find a job. Soon, he transferred money to his family across the world to Sri Lanka. Although they struggled to get a home, they never gave up and finally saved for one. That is what home is to me.
