Home
A home is a place you can let your worries wash away. Escape the world, and relax for a moment. Home is a place I look forward to, a place I can read, be calm, exercise, and play with my dogs. There is no place that makes me feel safer than my home. A home is not a house. A home gives you a peaceful sanctuary, and love, while a house is a roof over your head.
Home is a place I can read. When I get home from school, I feel tired and stressed sometimes. But when I enter my personal atmosphere, flop down on my low, firm mattress and grab Stellerlune off my shelf, I can escape the world of expectations and hardships. I can enter a hideaway place of wonders, and refresh my mind in a new world. Sometimes I also just grab a book for solitary purposes. I need to feel the relief of the stress I have been carrying from the day, and get ready for a new one. For example, sometimes my siblings can be very annoying, and I lock myself up in my room. I take a book from my shelf, and begin reading. Before I know it, all my worries wash away. My book comforts me and makes me feel at home.
Something extraordinary about home is that it always makes you feel loved and relaxed. A zen sanctuary where I can pet my dogs is home. Steady breathing after exercising, and taking a drink of cold, icy water makes me feel at home. As Oliver Holmes said, "Where we love is home, home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts." There are always people that care for you at home. Smoke from a campfire brings back memories of roasting marshmallows and sausages. Those memories put me at ease. The smell of the smoke makes my throat scratchy. It smells burnt and ashy, but it relaxes me and makes me feel safe and warm. I feel loved when I am at home. At my house I am loved, and at my Taekwondo dojo I am accepted. At home, my family loves me unconditionally. At my dojo they love me in a different kind of way. They appreciate the work and effort I put into the cause, and my determination to improve. I feel loved at these places, and the comfort of home surrounds me.
I always need exercise in my life. Exercising can lift my spirits and make me feel a sense of accomplishment. Everybody should have the opportunity to be fit and get the physicality they need. Home is a place your needs are met, and you can always have the feeling of pride in you. For me, when I get home I can fight my punching bag, exercise in the basement gym, and play soccer with my brother. Hard work always pays off in the end. Every Monday and Thursday I go to my Taekwondo dojo, that place is home to me. I can talk with my friends, exercise to my fullest, and let down my guard. Well, not in sparring! Home is a place you can accomplish your goals, and be who you are. That is what my dojo is.
There is nothing that comforts me more than spending time with my dogs. Aspen, Brin, and Caesey always give me a calm and tame feeling inside. They can make lots of people feel at home, and everybody should get to have that feeling. For me, I like to take Pitbull, Husky, and German Shepard for a walk, watch movies with them, and play tug-a-war with our long, weaved ropes. I could not imagine a life without a non-electric dishwasher cleaning my plate after a meal, or without a ferocious beast tearing a stuffed bear apart. The feeling of soft fur devours my fingers every time I need comfort. When I think of home and happiness, I think of my dogs.
A home is more than walls around you. A home is a place that you can feel and receive the love and relaxation you need. A place where you can read a good book, meditate and refresh, exercise and build your strengths, and be with who you want to be with. Everybody deserves a place to do these things, and we all need a sanctuary of privacy, and peace.
