What Home Means to a Neurodiverse Me

I have lived in many places. I have lived in different countries, different cities, and different houses. Even though they all looked different I learned what home really means to me. I am neurodiverse. Sometimes the world outside feels very busy and loud. There can be too many noises, people, and things happening at the same time. When this happens I feel tired and overwhelmed. Home is the place I come back to so I can calm down and relax. At home everything feels safe and familiar. I know where my things are. I know what will happen. I don’t feel judged and I don’t have to pretend to be someone else. I can be myself. If I need quiet time that is ok. Home is also where my family is. They understand me and love me just the way I am. They help me when I am having a hard day and support me no matter what. I have lived in many houses but home is more than a house. Home is a feeling. It is the place where I am safe, loved, and accepted. That is what home means to me.
