Home

Home is a drum beating strong and steady, like my nimâmâ’s (mother) heart, full of life. The sound rises, calling everyone together, wrapping us in rhythm and joy. Jingle dresses laugh as they dance, their songs bouncing through the air. Voices lift, singing loud and proud. A sewing machine hums nearby, busy and cheerful, turning ribbon and cloth into something beautiful. Home shines with color. Ribbons flow and flutter. Beads sparkle like tiny stars. My kokom (grandma) wears our stories with pride and love. Toys scatter the floor, Kids having fun and playing. Baskets wait, full of beads and dreams. Bannock sits warm, ready to be shared. Home feels good. Soft like buffalo fur. Warm like my favorite blanket. Bouncy like my bed when laughter fills the room. Hugs come easy here my Nihwakômâkanak(my relatives), close and strong, always there for me, Home tastes happy. Bannock and berries. Cookies made together, hands messy, hearts full. Every bite is shared, Every meal is a celebration. Home smells like comfort. Cookies baking. Tea brewing. Sweet smoke drifting. Scents that make me smile before I even step inside. Home is laughter. Home is love. Home is music and color and warmth. This is my home This is where my happiness lives.
