What Home is Supposed to Feel Like

Home is a safe place for everyone. It is a place where you are supposed to feel safe and loved, but not all people have a home like the rest. Shelter. Home is a shelter with warmth, no snow, no rain, no hail can get in. Home protects you from nature’s weather. It keeps you from getting cold in the winter or getting heatstroke in the summer. It’s a place for shelter, a forever shelter. It protects me and my family every day. Safety. Home is a place to feel safe, loved, and accepted. No one should feel like they are not safe in their neighborhood. Me and my family feel safe in our home forever, which I am thankful for every day. Everyone should feel safe like me and my family, like me and my family sitting by the fire telling stories and singing songs, baking cookies with my mom on a cold winter day, or watching my sister laughing and smiling on a hot summer day. Accepted. Home is a place where you are supposed to feel accepted. A place that you should be yourself, not a place with neglect. It’s a place where people don’t care about your looks, gender, and more. You should feel accepted. My parents accepted me when I came out as non-binary. So, everyone should feel like that. I hope everyone can have a forever safe place where they are accepted, a place of memories too, a place to laugh and smile. Thank you, Habitat for Humanity for giving people warm cozy homes.
