What Home Means to Me

For me, home has never been a building. It's not a big mumbo jumbo of clothes and furniture. Home is an expression. For me it is family, safety, and gratitude. Family is what makes me feel at home. I find my home in the memories I create with my family. Our vacation trips, times I see my relatives, when we play fun board games that crack a laugh out of us. All of that builds up the memories that matter. My parents help me every step of the way even when it’s hard. They are the bond that holds our family together. Even when I get bullied, I can talk to my parents about it and they will make me feel better. With my family, wherever I may be, I will feel at home. Home is that feeling of warmth. When we are content, when we know we are safe. There is no other feeling that can capture what safety feels like at home. It is like a shield of love and happiness that protects a strong castle. Not big, not tall, but a place of safety that we should treasure. When it is a cold winter night and we’re snuggled up by the crackling fire drinking hot cocoa, it is the love we need to keep a strong relationship. Home is the gratitude that we show to our parents and our friends. My family provides me with the love and care I need to stay strong. For that, I am grateful. My friends are the foundation of my happiness. They give me the joy and kindness that I need. I am very grateful to have them as my friends. These are the very important things that make up a healthy, safe and strong home.
