What is Home?

Home - the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household v.s. House - a building for human habitation When I arrive home, I feel safe that I’m back in Canada, the country I’ve lived in for the past 10 or so years. A place so close to me yet so far away. I am listening to the quietness of the house, the brightness of the living room. The atmosphere is quaint, although lonely. There’s no place and no feeling quite like it. I hear the plants crying, not seeing their masters for so long. The TV flashing, more outgoing than ever. It’s almost as if I can hug my beautiful, comforting home. The feel of wind as I open the door, the thoughts and memories of my trip racing through my mind. It’s a place where people enjoy their lives, a place where people sleep, a place which people wish they had. As I lay down on the sofa, I think about how lucky I am. People not having homes due to conflicts, bombings, poverty, discrimination, etc. Being able to celebrate Chinese New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival, my birthday, at my home. Home is love, celebration, hard work, relaxation, a living space. Home is what a home should be.
