My home
A house is a structure, made from wood, brick and stones. A home is built of love, memories, and safety. The foundation is love, and you build the rooms, the walls, the windows from there on. You add decorations that represent you. You can express freely with zero judgement. Here is a tour of my home…
The front door is the portal to my home. It is what keeps all the chaos in the world outside. When I enter my home, the familiar scent of chinese herbs simmering on the stove, the familiar, low, steady humming from the rice cooker, and the lights shining warmly. I feel safe there, knowing that even when I leave, my home will always be there, waiting for me with unconditional love.
The living room is the heart, the walls contain the distant chattering and laughing from each and every holiday. It is a catalog of our most cherished memories, from the nights where my family and I play board games and chess, to all of us watching TV together and laughing at my dad’s corny jokes. In that space, both discipline and love linger, ensuring that every lesson learned is built on an unwavering foundation.
My room is my own world, where I can relax after a long day at school, where I can wear whatever I want, and where I can simply be myself. The light pink walls and my bed with the scent of laundry detergent. The white drawers and cupboards with the golden handles. The bookshelf with my accomplishments over the years. It is my very own.
You get to build your own home from scratch. You get to make your own memories, and determine who you are. Thank you to Habitat for humanity for making that possible.
