Habitat for Humanity: Writing About Home

Before I heard about Habitat for Humanity, I always thought houses weren’t that important. However, after reading about their work and what they do, I understand that what they work towards is important, and now I have an opportunity to explain what their goal is. Their job is to ensure that everyone has a safe, and happy home to live in. Sadly, I have learned 1 in 8 Canadians do not have a safely structured home. After the founders of Habitat For Humanity, Linda Fuller and Millard Fuller, realized that this was not acceptable, they decided to do something about it. Thanks to them and their hardworking volunteers, they have made such a significant impact for a lot of Canadians. They raised $10 million dollars in 2023, which has made a huge difference for so many families and individuals who do not have enough money to pay for a home that is secure and decent. Habitat for Humanity tries to raise money to be able to build homes with people that are contributing to our community, and it’s not just in one province or territory, people from all over Canada volunteer to help wherever their local Habitat for Humanity is. As a young child, I do not understand the real meaning of home yet, so possibly this essay could maybe increase my understanding. My home is a brick house with a beautiful backyard and front yard with a deciduous tree in front. I really love that my home is so pretty, and comforting. It just feels like whenever I step into my home, it seems like I get a warm breeze swayed into my face. The way the carpet floor is so soft, that it feels like I’m walking on water. The beauty of my home is really what I’m trying to explain for my first reason. So in my second paragraph I said that the beauty of home is something I really love about my house. However, for me my privacy is also a big thing for me in my household. Kids around my age typically favour their room above other rooms in their home. For me, I am no different from them, since my room is a place where I can truly be myself. For others I feel like they have the same thoughts as I do. Privacy is another big part of my home for me. I have a lot of reasons why I love my home, so this is actually harder than I expected to choose only three reasons, so for my final reason, I also really appreciate my resources that I can access at my home. Such as clean water, healthy, delicious, foods, and a warm comfortable bed that I am able to sleep in. I am also really lucky to have entertainment like my phone, the tv, my music player, and many other devices to keep me from being insanely bored. I am very fortunate to have these things, since many kids- younger and older- do not have all of these necessities and not necessary items to have fun. So that is another reason why I love my home. In conclusion, I believe that Habitat for Humanity is so important to not only my local community, but all of Canada. Everyone deserves a safe, secure, home to live inside. A house is a structure, but a home is not just a building- it’s a feeling. I don’t think that many people really stop to think about how homes are a huge part of our lives, it contains memories, previous emotions, and needed things that us humans need to have.
