Where I Call Home
Where I Call Home
When I look up at the night sky, I think about how small we are compared to the universe. This is our home - the little green and blue marble in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way. We belong on Earth. No other planet is close to being able to support life. There are 8.2 billion people on this planet. Everyone who is here belongs here and nowhere else.
On a map of the universe, Earth may seem small. But what is even smaller is our city Edmonton. Edmonton is meaningful like a house which is even smaller. But no matter how small or big a home is, it is still meaningful to those who live in it. Home is the warmth of joy and happiness. At home, you are not forced to be someone else. I can take off all those sweaters and coats and just be myself, not pretending to be another person.
Home can mean being around people that you know and love. At home you feel like you belong in a comfortable, protected space. Home is where you do not have to worry about dangers outside and know that you and your belongings are safe.
This is home. When I open the door to my house, I feel relaxed and comforted. Every day that I spend time with my family, I feel happy I am with people who care about me. Home to me is filled with loud excitement of my brothers playing guitar and piano. When I hear mom baking and dad having fun with my brothers, I feel relieved to be in a safe place, away from danger.
All 8.2 billion people deserve to have a home - a space where they are safe and comfortable. Whether it is a small trailer or a large mansion, home is where our hearts live.
