What Home Means to Me

Home is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s not just the house I live in, but everything that makes me feel safe, happy, and loved. I’m a fifth-grade student living in Edmonton, Alberta, and home means so much to me. First, home is where my family is. It’s where my mom makes my favorite dumplings, and where my dad and I play video games on the couch. It’s where I build LEGO towers and then accidentally knock them over, laughing until my stomach hurts. Home is where we all gather to watch hockey games, especially when the Oilers are playing. Win or lose, we cheer together, and that makes home feel special. Home is also my safe place. When it’s freezing cold outside during a snowy winter, I know I can come inside to warmth and comfort. It’s where I can hide under a blanket during a thunderstorm when I’m feeling scared. Home is where I feel protected, no matter what. Another thing I love about home is the memories. It’s where I learned to ride my bike on our quiet street and where I built my first snowman in the backyard. It’s where I’ve celebrated birthdays, holidays, and even the last day of school with my friends. Every corner of my home reminds me of something happy. To me, home isn’t just my house—it’s also my dream. It’s playing badminton at the community rec center, exploring the river valley, and watching the northern lights on clear winter nights. It’s where I feel like I belong. Home is my family, my safety, my memories, and my city. It’s where I can be myself, and that’s why it’s one of the best places in the world.
