A Heart At Peace

Home. The word has different meanings to everyone. It could be four walls and a welcome mat. A classroom with desks and chairs. Even in the pages of a book, immersed in the ink. But to me, home is created out of energy from something, someone, or someplace. The place where laughter flows as easily as breath, where the smile on my face grows wider by the second. In my eyes, home is comfort. Where the warm and fuzzy feeling they talk about in books comes alive in my chest. They say home is where the heart is. But I like to think home is where the heart is at peace. For example, to me, home would be at hockey. The rush of the game, the thrill of the ice, the sound of my teammates cheering me on as I protect the goal with my life. These are all things that make me feel amazing. It keeps the scary, dreadful feelings away. Or maybe home would be at school. The laughter people can hear from the other side of the building. Music class, where trumpets, flutes, trombones and clarinets come together to make perfect harmony. Playing volleyball with my friends, with the sets, spikes, and serves that bring us together as more than friends. As family. The one thing these places have in common are the feelings they create. All of the little things that make a place special all come together and create the perfect feeling. Like a bead necklace. String all of the little beads together to create a beautiful thing. Home is love. Love and reassurance and the place where all the negative thoughts drift to the back of my mind, making room for memories. Memories filled with joy, flashbacks to incredible moments. Incredible moments from home.
