Home Means Magic

Home means magic. Magical homes are everywhere if you just look in the right place, at the right time. A dragon's home is a vast, dark cave. Piles of glittering jewels and rare metals lie in bountiful heaps on the ground. A mermaid's home is undersea in an astonishing palace. Some have coral walls that shimmer in the watery light as little silver fish poke their heads out of small nooks and crannies. A fairy's home is in a tree. Moss and lichen with a comfy leaf blanket make a bed for a snoozing fairy. A gnome's home is a mushroom hut. Its roof is red and decorated with bright white spots. A wizard's home is in a sprawling castle. Wizards tinker with important potions and silly spells in their dungeon. I have a home too. It's not decorated with precious jewels or expensive metals but with family photos and a lot of art from camp. Home means love. My home has walls but not made with coral. Instead, the walls are made of concrete walls that keep the cold and scary out and the warm and cozy in. Home means safety. Our beds aren't made of moss with a leaf for a blanket, but instead with comfy mattresses and soft blankets. Home means comfort. My home has a roof too. It's not made of mushroom though. It's made of sturdy wood and shingles that keep the rain out. Home means protection. My home holds lots of silly games and important papers, but not silly spells and important potions. Sometimes, my family pushes away the papers and plays silly games. Home means fun. Not all of us experience love, safety, comfort, protection, or fun. But together, with compassion, we can help each other find magic.
