The Meaning of Home

Home is my house but not just my house. It is a building but also not just a building. It is the place where our memories were made, good ones and bad. It is the place where we have grown stronger even if we do not know it. Home is the shelter against all the elements whether it is the blazing hot summers or frigid Canadian winters, it always keeps us comfortable. Home is family. It is my sister and I arguing but knowing that we will always be there for each other. Home is my mother’s homemade meals and sitting around the table, talking and laughing. It is my father teaching me how to work hard but still to have fun. My little sister that always does something funny even when she does not realize it. Home is a feeling. The feeling of comfort. Belonging. Love. Trust. Crawling into my warm bed after spending the day tobogganing in the cold, crisp winter air with my family. Cuddling under a soft blanket as we watch a movie. Winding down with a good book in my hands. I am lucky that I can call so many things home when I know that there are people who are not as fortunate. That is why it is so important that people and organizations like Habitat for Humanity are helping those in need so maybe they can have a sense of home too.
