Home

Home. Nobody can replace it. It’s a feeling that no word could ever come close to. The deep feeling when your mom hugs you. The feeling that you have a place in the world where people love you. Wrapping their arms around you and saying “You’re special”. So often people say home is where the family is, but to me home is just home. There’s no word to describe it, but I’m going to try. When I’m with my dad we hang out in his shop. Wood shavings litter the floor and we make things together. With my mom we make fresh baked cookies and cakes, iced with pink and blue, green and yellow, purple and red. Multicolored sprinkles fall onto the floor. With my sisters I laugh until my sides hurt. We jump outside like there’s no end. My room is messy but comfortable. The sun in the morning spills through my window, a natural timer. All the pieces of my home from family to friends, inside and outside make up my home. Home is everything. The people, the places, the smells. Home is what you live by. The smells of cooked beef and chicken. The spot where all my memories take place. The people included in all of those memories. When you go away for a week it’s not the same and it’s a relief when you get back. Vacation is awesome but home is so much better. When you're home you know that your family has your back. Home means so much to me. I could never live without it. That’s what home is, that’s what it means to me.
