Not A Building

For most people home is four walls and a roof, but for me it is much more than that it is a feeling. Home is the feeling of going to Mexico with my family every year. It’s my little cousins faces filling with laughter and fun when they splash and swim in the lukewarm pool. When we all walk to the large mall under the tall palm trees, and I push the black stroller back and forth as if it was a roller coaster. We end our night with messy street tacos with the salty and smooth mild green sauce. Home is playing volleyball with my big sister in our messy playroom. I watch as our blue and green striped volleyball bounces and ricochets off our old furniture. We bump, set and practice our overhand serves when we are bored. Home is the feeling of waking up on Christmas morning. I see presents under the tree wrapped in brightly colored wrapping paper. I smell the delicious aroma of my mom’s homemade cinnamon buns with salty butter dripping down the sides of the toasted treat. Home is the feeling of practicing at a late-night soccer practice with my friends. We laugh, we dribble, we kick … but we mostly laugh! Home is the feeling of being the last person in line for the game jail break. It’s the feeling of kicking it in the top left corner and the happy faces of my teammates. It doesn’t matter if you are across the street, across town or even across the world to be home because home is anywhere when you are with people you love and cherish. THANK YOU, Habitat for Humanity, for this amazing contest.
