Home

Homes are important because they are where you feel loved. Home is where you smell the potpourri at Christmas and taste the sour rhubarb from your grandma’s garden and see the fifteen-dollar coffee table that your dad brought back one day. Home is where the beds creak and the shower steams up the whole house. Home is where you step on lost slippers and lean on soft pillows. At home, you hear the kettle whistling and see the messy playroom. Home is where Mom finds recipes that Dad changes. Feeling at home is when there are always soft blankets to touch or where there is always a tune in the breeze. Home is squeaky old couches and music stands in the middle of rooms. Home is tasting homemade cinnamon buns and yummy stews. Home is when you feel like you can do anything. Home is where you can feel casual. When you're at home, you see your family. Home is where your feet touch the cold floor and you hear the tuba playing. At home, candles burn sweetly in your parents’ room. Home is where you smell the fresh pastries made by your sister and where instruments are clustered in the corner of the room. At home, crafts and tiny models are made. Home is where you hear the clock ticking and your little brother playing his saxophone. At home, there are endless activities and loud washing machines. Homes are where you feel in place with your family near, that’s why they’re so important to me.
