The Warmth of Home

When I think of home, I think of warmth, love, family and my pets. Those alone can build a home. A space to be me. To be weird and not judged. This makes me notice that I am very lucky to have a home. My family may be different but that doesn’t change the way that a live and think of a home. Lots of things can build a home. It can be the food, people or even objects such as a picture, a blanket or even a favourite stuffed animal. Now that I am getting older, I am noticing how hard you must work just to afford shelter and food. Knowing all of this makes me think of how people end up homeless and how much of a struggle living on the streets must be. People who are homeless need to use public places like bus shacks or under benches just to stay warm and I can’t imagine how hard it is to survive. People don’t need to feel this during their life and just thinking of this makes my heart hurt. It is difficult for me to see people trying to survive and how much they must appreciate Habitat for Humanity. Homes are important because they hold love and even good and bad memories. No matter what it is, a home will hold all of that. A home feels just like a hug, and I think everyone should experience that.
