Drifting in Peace

To me, home is a feeling. The sun has drifted, and the night sky has fallen. The bright stars have appeared, and the moon begins to glow. I look at the reflection of my eyes in the mirror and celebrate three good things that happened throughout my day. I give myself a thumbs up and I leave my sister’s room. My footsteps echo in my apartment as I walk towards wherever I decide to sleep for the night. I take out my notebook and begin journalling. As my pencil hits my notebook, I turn letters into words and words into magic. I put my notebook under my pillow and hear my bed sheets crinkling as I pull them over my body. I stare at the ceiling as my thoughts grow deeper. My legs begin to wildly shake, and I hear my own rapid heartbeat. I take deep breaths and remind myself that I am safe and protected in the space that I am in. I roll onto my side and my eyelashes begin to flutter against my pillow as my eyes slowly drift away. I feel at ease, and I know I have created my own peace. This feeling is what home means to me.
