Home is Like a Puzzle

Home Is Like A Puzzle Home is like a puzzle. There are so many pieces, but when it is put together it makes a home. All the pieces are different sizes. Some are bigger, some are smaller. The bigger pieces are what make up the base of the home, such as the walls, the roof, and the furniture. But a home isn’t just a house. It isn’t just walls surrounding you and a roof over your head. It is where you come after a hard day of work, or a long visit with friends, or a trip to the other side of the world. It is a familiar place, a place that gives you comfort. A home should make you calm, as if someone is welcoming you with open arms. And a home is the people who live in the house; the family. The family, or the people who live in the house, are the biggest piece of the puzzle, and of a home. Without these people (and pets, too), the home would be nothing but a bare, empty structure. A sad, lonely skeleton of a house. The smaller pieces of the puzlle may not seem so important, but they are always needed. If you are missing a piece of the puzzle, even a small one, it cannot be complete. These small pieces are the memories; the echoes from the past. The crayon drawing of an unidentifiable figure, scribbled on the corner of a wall. The pictures taped on the fridge, of birthday parties and family gatherings. The Spider Man stickers on the dishwasher door. The photo books lined up on the wall, with pictures from weddings and anniversaries. The framed photo of a lost one on the shelf. And if you have a pet, such as a cat or a dog; the hairs and bits of fur lying around on the floor and couches. Every little bit of a home matters. And like a puzzle, every home is different. The past of the home, the people who built it, the people who live in it, and the memories made in it. A home is also the moments in the present. The music from practicing your songs on the piano, the notes filling the rooms with wonder. A cat, running across the hall, with all the energy in the world, its paws thumping on the floorboards. A fresh meal or cake in the oven, the tasty smells wafting around the room. The clicking of buttons from the keyboard, someone typing an essay. The scratching of a pencil on paper. All these things, all these puzzle pieces, make a home.
