What Holds You Still

Home need not be physical; Home can be a feeling, A person, or any place in the world. Home is where you are cared for. Home is where you truly want to be. Home is where you can eat, Sleep, Play peacefully, Where you can make good memories. Home is where you celebrate with family. A place where you can sing without a care about how you sound, And express your feelings without struggle. Home is freedom. Home is like a dock, your resting place. A ship, You battle resistant waters, then come back to your dock for rest. No matter how fierce the tides are, Home welcomes you with warmth, A safe place to be. Sometimes, the dock rattles. Home feels different. Siblings fight. Parents argue. Your boat rocks. You decide to take a break, but you always return. No matter how hard you try to break free, You are connected to your home. Home is where you were made, What keeps you safe, What holds you still. There are rough waters out there. Ones that can shake you. Ones that can engulf you. You bid your family “au revoir,” but promise to return. Alone, you set out to sea. You travel far and wide. You try to make a new home for yourself. Independence is hard, but you are brave. Storms shake your boat furiously, You battle the water, You learn from your troubles. You know you can always come back. Before you know it, Home’s waters roll gently to welcome you. You are home.
