Meaning of Home
Home is such an important thing that everyone should have access to. Everyone should be able to have a safe and happy home. 1 in 8 Canadians don’t have a safe home or a home at all. Homes are so expensive and for some families they have to choose between keeping their house and paying rent or buying food and clothes. That is not fair and it never will be. So that is why I’m so grateful to have a place where I have enough food and where I can be myself.
For me home isn’t the walls or the furniture, it’s the people and feelings inside. It’s where I feel safe, trusted and loved. For me, home means my dog running up to me when I get home from school. It’s the joy in his eyes as he paws at me to pet him, and it’s the loyalty and happiness in his eyes. It’s also that feeling of support and love I get from my family. When I’m having a bad day they're there for me when I feel alone and like I don’t matter. They make me feel important and special. Home is my sister reading in my room with me. It’s that smile on her face and the glimmer in her eyes when she finds something funny. It’s eating too much popcorn on family movie nights, it’s laughing so hard you’re about to cry. All those things and so much more make me feel at home.
I’m so thankful for contests like this where I can help and support people. Home should be a safe place and I’m very blessed in my house and I want more people to have that same feeling. I love my home and family, and I love coming home to them everyday. Someday I hope everyone will feel that way too.
