Serbia is Home

When someone asks me what home means to me, I say Serbia. Whenever I am with family that speak my language, I feel truly safe and glad that I am surrounded with people who love me! These are the reasons why “Serbia” is somewhere I consider being my home. Being around people who speak my language makes me happy. Even when I walk into a restaurant most people speak my language so I can understand everything they are saying. Even in Canada if you walk into a Serbian restaurant most people speak Serbian there. Whenever I travel to Serbia and we arrive at my Grandparents house, I can already smell my grandma's home-cooked meals as we walk through door. We are greeted by them with sweet warm hugs that warm up our hearts! I’ll see my favorite cousin, and we will run into a long warm hug with a smile on our faces, so happy to finally see each other after a few months. Home to me is being with loved ones, and knowing that if we are hungry - there is already food and a beverage on the table. We also have all those needs in Canada but being in Serbia just makes things better! In Serbia we also have tons of animals since my grandparents have a huge yard! I like to play with the pets when I am bored or just watch them. Everyday my aunt and her husband come to hang out with us since they live about 10-15 away. Home to me also means that I know I can be myself without any judgement.
