The Definition

The word “house” is a noun that means a building for human habitation, but what is a home? Let me tell you. Home is the sight of my mom’s joy, when I come back from school, happiness glittering in her eyes. Home is my sister’s music blaring in her room, making it unbearable for everyone in the house. Home is the soft bed I cuddle into when my room is too cold, with its warmth against my skin. Home is the traditional Bengali food that I’ve been waiting to feast on for hours. Home is where my sister and I binge-watch billions of shows for hours at a time. Home is the safe playground in my backyard that has been untouched, but the memories still lie. Home is the amount of times I’ve tripped over the stairs, crying, while my sister was dying-laughing. Home is the secure and safe place I’ve grown to love for the past 12 years. Now, that is a home.
