A poem from the Perspective of Someone in Need of a Better Home
The soggy damp air seeps through the rotted boards that used to be walls,
The frigid wind blew through the sagging roof and halls, chilling me right to the core.
And nothing but a paper thin blanket wrapped around my bitter cold body,
As I shudder in my bug ridden mattress on the floor,
I shut my eyes tight dreaming that someday I might have a home
I used to a have home back when I wasn't alone
Back before it fell apart
Back when I had a steady paycheck
and not crippling debt
Now,
Now I don't even have a promising meal
Now I barely have a roof over my head
And practically have to steal
if I don't get picked for a new home, a habitat home
a home where I am safe, safe from the the worries of what might come next
Safe from freezing in the night.
A home where new memories can be shared instead of the ones that dwell in the past.
A home where the soft purr of a cat and the woof of a dog greets you at the door
A home where you can cuddle up with a fluffy blanket, who could want more
A home where the windows shine bright and light up the pages of your book
A home where your safe and welcome no one telling you to leave
A home where the food melts in your mouth and into your belly
A home where morning dance parties are the norm
A home that is yours
So with a single form I got it!
Thank you habitat for humanity for helping people in these dire situations, and supplying them with a fresh start and a home.
