Home Sweet Home

I walk home after a long day. School was hard and all I want is to relax at my house. As I head through my neighborhood, memories of going over to neighborhood friends' houses and playing out in the front yard rush through my mind. I wave to the man who lives down the street as he mows his front yard. He smiles back. My neighborhood is safe and kind. I enter my house, and my mothers greet me at the door with a warm hug. The smell of buttery popcorn makes my mouth water. I join my siblings on the couch and watch cartoons. We talk about our days and snack on popcorn. We all laugh at each other's stories and I feel comfortable and relaxed. Home is a place I can be myself and talk with my loved ones. We head to the kitchen to do the dishes. My moms are cooking and chatting. The food makes a sizzling sound on the stove. We are all happy. I feel warm inside, and I know that when I am home I am secure and cozy. After dinner, we look at photobooks of our childhood. Photos of us playing baseball at the park, taking baths as babies and snuggling on the couch, fill the book. We laugh and smile. Seeing all these memories makes me feel comfortable and proud to have grown up in this house.
