Home

I used to have a home that I looked forward to going to every day because being home made me feel safe, loved, and cared for. I used to live in another country where my cousins lived three houses away on the same street, and where we played together after school in my grandma’s backyard. I remember walking with my family to my grandma’s house for supper where we ate my aunties mouthwatering cakes for dessert. I remember sitting on the roof of my home sharing stories with my cousins. I loved my home. But then my mom got a scholarship to come to Canada, so we moved. Now I live in Canada. To me, a home is filled with memories and love. It is somewhere that everyone respects you for who you are. It is somewhere that is cozy and filled with blankets and special pillows that make you feel safe. A home can be anywhere. It can be a house, a school, or an Arabic speaking class. Wherever your home is, you must feel loved and cared for. Now my home in Libya is a memory. I think that Habitat for Humanity is doing a great job so everyone can have a home like I used to there. Everyone deserves a home.
