The Meaning Of Home In My Eyes

When I think of the word home I don’t think of my house or even a place you can get to from any car or bus. I think of the feeling of love. An animal would say that their home is their territory. For me it’s quite the opposite. Home is not my house or condo or even a neighborhood, it is my family. It’s where you feel welcome, loved and happy. Where you feel that you are safe and loved ones are near you. I can smell the delicious stir fry my mom and I make when we’re feeling like a warm family dinner. I hear the happy laughter from everyone around me after my brother has said a hilarious dad joke. I can see my family chuckling at the comedy movie we chose as a collective. I can feel my parents warm hug before sending me off to bed feeling safe, loved and happy. A home could be a warm sensation pulsing through my chest as my breathing slows in the arms of my parents. I know I will have a good sleep because of their comforting presence as I drift off to my calming dreams about my family. It could be the sound of my dog breathing gently on my lap as I am cuddled on the sofa reading a book or of me traveling with my family to the Caribbean, laying on the beach talking to my dad about what we should do that day and going into the water often where my brother and I search for beautiful seashells for my mom. Wherever we are together is my home. Even if we were halfway across the world from our house or lying in a forest and we were together, That is where my home is.
