What Home Means to Me

To me, home is not just the building I go to every day after school, the building I sleep in during the night, the warm, heated building in the winter, the cool, air-conditioned house in the summer, but the people who live there with me and support me. The people who, not just live in my house, but the people who live in my neighborhood too. The people who are there for me if I need them, the people who protect me, the people who care about me. People that I would talk to, and people I would share my deepest secrets with. Some of them might not live in my neighborhood but are friends at school. Some of them might not be people, but pets. Home to me is not just people but places that are special to me, like my bedroom, or my living room. I also consider home myself. a place where I get to dream at night. Good dreams and bad dreams. It can be music. A way I can express my feelings. But also, quietness, a time I have the chance to think. Think about what I will do the next day. Home is family. Warm, kind people that believe in me. People that trust me and love me. Pets that snuggle with me in my bed at night and people that eat a warm, cozy Christmas dinner with me on Christmas eve. Home is the feeling of love and kindness we share as we play and sing together. Home is me and you and the people we choose to share our home with.
