Home: Much More Than a House

Most people think of “home” as a house. I believe home is a place where you feel loved, safe, and even in hard times know you are not alone. Home is much more than the 4 walls of a building. It is having hope and dreams. Home is where the heart is. It has space for family, friends, and anyone who needs love and acceptance. Home is building relationships with those who do not have anyone to care for them, love them, or spend time with them. Home is having a full heart, making memories, and being grateful. Home is knowing that after a hard day, there is a hug waiting for me, sharing my fears, and knowing when I struggle to believe in myself, my mom and dad will. Hope is believing in others, so that they feel valued. Home is a safe place to share my feelings and dreams. It is really seeing others around me, and the opportunity to listen to what is important to them. Home is walking beside hurting people, sharing an encouraging word, and wanting them to feel important. Home is knowing when I close my eyes at night, I am loved, and when I wake up, I never have to be afraid of the day ahead. I want home for everyone, so they would know they are loved, safe, and cared for. We can all be home for someone. Habitat for Humanity understands what home really means. They build physical homes for people, but also what it looks like to be loving and compassionate. They believe in helping others, and giving people hope for a better future. This is why I think home is so much more than a house. Home is the love we receive, and the love we share.
