Meaning of Home

Home seems simple: A place to stay, a place to live, but NO. That’s not all. Home means waking up to the chirping birds on a spring morning, or to the creaky doors on a winter day. Home means sleeping in and getting angry at myself. I’m grateful that I have a place to sleep. Home means the smell of Dim Sum (A Chinese breakfast) on a Sunday. Home means my mom’s yummy pork that falls off its bone when you touch it. Home means poke bowls on a special day. Home can mean something simple to eat, like toast. Home means the memories and the smell of the delicious food. I’m grateful that I have yummy food to eat. Home means the cars turning onto our street only to turn back once they realize it’s a dead end. Home means the field trips where you have to squeeze on the bus as it sways. Home means the helicopters making buzzing sounds in the summer. Home means the garbage truck coming into our street slowly while my dad panics to get the garbage out. I’m grateful for fast transportation. Home means my mom’s garden. Home means the saying “These were from the garden.” before we start to eat. Home means the trees and their branches moving like waves. Home means the fresh breeze in the air. Home means our Farm Box we get every Wednesday. I’m grateful for nature in my home. Home means the safety of having family and friends. Home means having safety like a house. Home means access to having medical needs. Home means having help from people who know what they are doing (like police, firemen and nurses). I’m grateful for safety. Home is a right that everyone should have.
