My Home Is My Habitat

When I’m in my soft, toasty bed I feel like a joey in its pouch, warm and cozy, nestled next to its kangaroo mum, safe in its furry home. Around me, my house stands tall, strong, and proud, always protecting me from harsh, raging weather. When I’m at my friend's house, I feel like a hermit crab borrowing a shell. It feels less secure than my home, but no other house, however lovely, can ever be the same as my comfortable, familiar home. When I come back from holiday I feel like a bird returning to its nest. I loved the new sights, smells, and tastes, but the familiarity of home welcomes me. I know every inch of my house, like a bird knows every stick in its nest. When I go to school I feel like a bee working hard and then returning to get a good rest with my family around me. I bring back knowledge like a bee brings back honey. I know I always have a safe place to go at the end of the day. Fatigue engulfs me and I settle down, snug in the warmth. There is no place like my home anywhere on the planet. It means my mum tucking me into bed and my dad cheering on the rugby. It means the walls of our house covered in my drawings and the smells coming from the kitchen of freshly baked cake. My home is amazing! It’s comforting to know that I will always have shelter. I am so very grateful that I have somewhere warm and dry to sleep and a safe place to be. It must be so miserable to be homeless and I really want to do my part to help change that for people.
