The Home I Know

The sound of beef sizzling on a pan. Soon followed by the mouth watering scent making its way throughout the air. The stairs giving off a thud as I’m called down for dinner. The taste of homemade food tingles my taste buds. This is the home I know. The sounds of birds chirping as I wake up in the morning. The sun’s rays peeking through my bedroom window. The gentle wind blowing against my face as I walk along the sidewalk. The feeling of ice cream pricking my tongue as a drop of sweat falls down my cheek. This is the neighbourhood I know. Cars coming and going down the streets. Shadows of buildings darkening the ground. I hear people talking to each other. A bell rings as I walk through a door. I look out the window and see the trees waving in unison as the wind pushes them left and right. This is the city I know. Snow falling from the sky. Mountains standing tall covering the blue sky. Roars of water falling off the cliff side. Mist blanketing the sky as grass blankets the ground. The sun peeking through the tree branches. This is the province I know. I see bottles in the shapes of maple leaves. Syrup dripping down from the stack of pancakes. The lively sound of the anthem. The flag waving on its pole. The vast land going as far as the eye can see. This is the country I know.
