Loved By Home

Home, as mom picks me up from school I can't wait to get home. It’s pouring outside, ominous clouds hang overhead. As we walk home I can’t stop thinking of the people on the streets, people without homes. Finally! l run into the house, drop my bag, I need to get to my room and start writing. I need to write, because I am doing the “Meaning of Home.” Once I’m in my room I grab my notebook and start. Home means to me being safe, cozy, calm, loved, free to be myself and having fun. Safe: Knowing that I have my whole family who I can turn to. “Safe to me is…" said the owl as he pondered my question.“Safe is when I am in my tree snuggled up in the leaves and my feathers that I have shed knowing that no animal can climb as high as where I have placed my nest.” Cozy: Knowing that during stormy nights I always have a bed I can go to or snuggle up in the winter with my family. “Cozy to me is when I am hibernating in the winter,” said the bear. “Just me and my den with my belly full of food from the fall and me awaiting springtime.” Calm: Knowing that I am not in the finals for basketball with a tied score or having fun with my friends, it’s knowing that I can just relax and just sit down and be myself! “Ummm... I think that calm is…” the seal said. “When I am on the rocks at night knowing that no predators can come and gobble me up.” Being myself: I love being at home mostly because of this final reason. Nothing is better than being at home because you can be loved!
