The Meaning of Home
My house, it’s a building, its walls with a roof, not a home, home is a smell, it’s a feeling. Home is being with your loved ones, the place you make all your memories, a place it feels right to be.
For some people home might be the park they spent so many hours so many days playing with their friends at, it might be being with your loved ones. When my parents are at work my house seems so empty, it seems sad. Unlike when all my family is at home and all together, it all feels so full of emotion. Home is where you laugh with your siblings over things that aren’t even funny, it’s where you sneak around with your best friend doing things you know you shouldn’t. Recently, me and my family went on a trip to India, even though it was only my second time there, it felt like home, do you know why? Because of family.
Home can be a recognizable place, a place it feels right to be. Do you know when you go to your friend’s house for the first time? I find it interesting because you can see how your friends live every day. Each house has a specific smell to it, even your house, though you can’t smell it. You get to see how they live, where they eat breakfast every day, where they go to bed every night. Each home is different, whether it's outside or inside, cold or hot, small or big, everyone has different homes.
Home is filled with memories, when I look at home all the memories I’ve built up over time come back rushing to me. We moved recently, in my new house everything seemed so foreign. Nothing seemed warm and welcoming, it was all bland. My new house is finally starting to feel like home because I made memories. Leaving my old house reminded me of all the memories we made, it was all a part of that house and now it all feels so distant, this made me learn that you never genuinely appreciate anything until you have to let it go.
Home is being with your loved ones, it’s a place it feels right to be, a place where you laugh and cry, a place you love, home is not where you’re supposed to be, it’s where you’re meant to be. I hope I made you understand what I consider to be the meaning of home.
