What Home is to Me

For me, home is the home I live in. The place I come home to every day after school. The sweet smell of pancakes on Saturday morning. Home is the place where I and my family can talk, share, and laugh about memories from previous years. Some memories are funny, some sad, and some in between. Some from good times and some from bad, but as a family, we got through them. Home is the place I’m free to be me. For me, home is the school I go to. The place where all my teachers and friends welcome me with a friendly smiles. The place where I am free to learn, create, and be myself. School is the place I learn something new every day. The place I spend most of my days working hard, experiencing new things, and trying to do my best. School is the place I’m free to learn. For me, home is the city I live in. The beautiful Winnipeg snow falling from the sky. Every snowflake different in its own way. The enormous buildings scraping the sky. Me and my neighbors laughing and chatting at BBQs in the summer. The delicious taste of sweet, smooth, soft-serve chocolate ice cream in the hot sun. Winnipeg’s the place I’m free to live freely. For me, home is the country I’m growing up in. Canada. The sweet-tasting maple syrup on my tongue. Our Canadian flag blowing proudly in the strong wind. The great feeling of being safe in this amazing country. Canada is the place I can live the life everyone deserves. I’m so grateful that I have a family that can provide a roof over my head for me and thank you so much Habitat for Humanity for building homes for families in need
