The Meaning of Home

Home. When I am at home, I know I am safe, I can be comfortable, I can relax, I can go outside when I want to, eat when I want to and sleep when I want to. To me, home isn’t just a building that I live in, it’s a dwelling place together, surrounded by the people I love and the people who love me. Some people don’t have a roof over their head, they have the sky. Home is a warm place, where I can cuddle into my bed and watch tv, or sleep comfortably, some people don’t have a warm place, it’s just whatever the weather is, some people don’t have a bed they can get cozy with, or a tv they can watch, some people don’t get to eat whenever they want, they eat whenever they can. At home I laugh at the funny jokes my sister or mom make, eat the delicious home cooked meals my parents make, come home to the smell of supper being made and have nice movie nights with snacks. I’ve had many homes, but to me wherever my family is, is my real home. Home is my place and feeling of belonging. Home doesn’t always mean a building, with doors, a bedroom, a kitchen and a living room, sometimes it’s with the people you love most that you can call home. “Home is not a place, it’s a feeling” -Ceclia Ahern. That is what home is to me.
